Severus started awake at the noise, and immediately grabbed for his wand as he looked around wildly. A moment later, it became clear that something had upset his father... again... and by the sounds of his slurred yelling, he had been drinking. Profusely. Again. He groaned and buried his face in the pillow, wincing as the sounds of more smashing and shrill yelling from his mother spread throughout the house.
"Are you fucking kidding me with this shite? Wanker," he muttered, hauling himself out of bed angrily. He poked around on the floor until he found his discarded t-shirt from when he'd gone to bed and pulled it over his head, throwing a disgusted glance at his bedroom door before shoving the window up with all his strength. Luckily, it didn't stick this time, and it was easy work to throw down his shoes, climb out and jump down to the bare lawn.
Chancing a glance up at the kitchen window, Severus scowled as the sounds reached him even from where he was picking himself up off the lawn, and without even bothering to brush his pants off, he flicked off in the general direction of the house and slunk out of the yard. Bugger this. He'd had enough. It wasn't any worse than usual, really, but this on top of everything this past year with Lily, and Potter and his bloody gang of miscreants, Severus had had all he could take. He paused outside of Lily's house out of habit before sighing and heading toward the park.
When he got there, he found Lily sitting in one of the swings already, and stopped dead in his tracks. Of all the bloody luck....
"Severus," she said quietly, looking at him with a blank expression. "What are you doing here?"
"Public property," he said loftily after a moment's hesitation. "I can be here if I like." To prove it, he took the swing next to her, not saying another word. The nighttime sounds dragged on in the ensuing silence, and he took to kicking at the sand idly.
"They're fighting again," she finally said a moment later.
"What the fuck do you think?" Severus retorted with a glare.
Lily gave him a cool look and replied, "I think you're an insufferable prick who's lashing out at me because he can't handle mummy and daddy fighting, and he needs someone to take it out on - and I'm a good scapegoat because I told you I didn't want to be friends anymore. Poor baby." With that, she stood up and started walking away.
Severus stared after her, stunned for a moment before saying, "Whatever. You don't know what it's like to live with my family."
"I thought I was part of your family too, you know," Lily said, pausing to look back at him. "But you burned that bridge. I wish you a good life, Sev. But I won't be in it." She ducked out before he could respond. Not that he had a good one, in all honesty.
